Apple upgrades the supply chain, preparing for iPhone 5
Apple is currently the undisputed leader of the consumer electronics industry, with iPhones, iPads and iPods ranking high on consumers’ most-wanted lists. The Cupertino-based company also has a significant presence in the global supply chain business, Computer World blogger Jonny Evans notes.
Citibank analyst Jim Suva notes that without the billions of dollars Apple generates a year, the global tech supply chain sector would actually be shrinking. Instead, the industry is thriving, which is the reason why Apple is able to acquire such a vast supply of high-quality components for lower prices than competitors.
As the company now prepares for the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple is gearing up with suppliers. “Foxconn is setting up a $210 million factory to create components for Apple devices in China, part of a $2.2 billion investment in eastern China,” Computer World adds.
